Should I start numbering these? Organizing them somehow? Putting some kind of additional descriptor after a, I don’t know, colon? I feel like after what’s got to be getting to close to 20 of these Mid-Week Procrastination posts I should have them down, but hey the imposter syndrome and professional doubt have been real so far this week so this just fits right in!
I hope you are having a good week so far, La Croix and my favourite Califia Farms premade iced coffee and almond milk were on sale at the grocery store on Saturday so those have been really helping. I also had my post-travel COVID test this morning and it was negative so those are all good things! I think that the pandemic has really helped me to appreciate those tiny good moments that make the mundaneness of every day life less mundane? I’m rambling now, let’s just jump into my favourite articles, videos, and podcasts of the week.
I’m not in the position to start “curating” an art collection (I’m not even in the position of knowing if I even want to have an art collection), but I think it is very interesting to learn about how people go about doing it.
I love Meghan’s bucketlists, she posts them semi-regularly and they are fun and (well I was going to say whimsical, but the name of her blog is Wit and Whimsy so I now imagine that to be the point?) imaginative. I’ve also been playing with the idea of doing a blow-out Europe backpacking trip for my 30th birthday (which is somehow only a couple years away, and I kind of think that like 30-33 is the very upper limits of your hostel years – although maybe that’s just a men thing? It was always creepy when there was an older man in the room, but I can’t remember seeing any older women in hostels) so her Paris one is such travel-porn and her summer one is maybe achievable?
I don’t really follow any celebrities’ lives religiously, but I think that Sophie Turner is one of the most beautiful people alive today (and she’s really funny) so this piece about her wedding was one that I enjoyed.
Okay I know I just said I don’t really care about celebs, but since these pictures hit the internet last week I have been dying to know how Kimmy K got into the Vatican in a white lace (you have to be Catholic royalty, actually, for that) and with her arms, shoulders, and stomach showing! Literally, every rule broken. Short answer, she didn’t they made her put on a jacket lol.
I’m not really sure what I think about Norway mandating that influencers have to mark their photos as retouched, I think it’s a step in the right direction, but it also kind of seems like a blanket, we-still-don’t-know-how-to-regulate-social-media-properly move. The King of Norway still has to approve it so it may not happen, but it will be interesting to see what its outcome could be.
In breaking news, Mary Simon, an Inuk woman from Northern Quebec, has been appointed Canada’s new Governor General. So, explainer, Canada is still part of the British Commonwealth, which means that technically, the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth (aka QEII) is our head of state. The Governor General is an appointed position by the Prime Minister, selected to represent the Crown in Canada. Like technically our laws aren’t laws until the GG signs them, she installs the PM and their cabinet and such. I’m not certain how I feel about it, I think it’s fantastic that another woman got the job and amazing that it’s an Indigenous person, but having an Indigenous person represent the Crown that took so much from Indigenous people also just kind of feels like upholding colonialism, ya know? It is also so obviously a political move with the current state of Canada. IDK.
Obviously Iceland is doing things like successfully testing out shorter workweeks.
A very interesting read about the history behind that noughties trend of wearing a fancy dress over jeans.
And a thought provoking piece about the pop music you listen to and who it supports. If you still refuse to listen to Chris Brown you should read this.
I’ve been pondering getting Crave TV and the HBO extension available through it, so this list of what’s coming to HBOMax in July is helping in the decision making process.
I love rattan and wicker furniture. It’s durable, it’s beachy, it’s casual but can be zhuzhed up to be refined, and it’s light enough for me to very easily be able to move it around by myself!
“Eat the uber-rich, and then their salmon pinwheels” made me actually laugh out loud.
I really love Tinx, and reading this article I think it clicked for me why, she’s a not anonymous, kind, not targeting anyone in specific Gossip Girl. It’s social commentary without being mean-spirited.
I’m not in the job market at the moment but holy heck the line in this “applying for a job is not a contract to accept it’s offer” just slapped me in the face so hard.
I’m really loving that we are seeing more conversation about breast implant illness in the media lately. A friend of mine recently went through this and it was scary and took a long time for her and her doctors to figure out because the symptoms are so vague.
I have been doing a lot of research on the Delta variant for work this week, this article does a pretty decent job of summing it up.
Have a great rest of your week!
